Bangladesh Aims for 20% Green Power by 2030

12 Sept 2026

The prime minister shared a new energy goal. Bangladesh wants one fifth of its electricity to come from renewable sources by 2030. This was said in parliament on Wednesday.

The target came in a written answer. It was a reply to a question from Md Tajuddin Khan. He is the MP for Meherpur-1.

The answer was given during the question-answer session. This was the third session of the 13th parliament.

Right now, most power in Bangladesh comes from gas and coal. Reaching 20% renewable will take time and money. The government has not said how it will meet the target.

Who this affects

  • Online shop owners who pay high electric bills each month.
  • Sellers who depend on fans, lights, and computers to run their business.

What to do about it

  • Track your monthly electricity use and cost for the next few weeks.
  • Switch to LED bulbs and energy-saving fans where you can.
  • Ask your landlord or local utility about solar panel options for your shop.
  • Follow news from the government about renewable energy plans.
