Bank money grows, but loans stay hard to get
12 Sept 2026
Banks in Bangladesh now hold more spare money than before. By June 2026, this extra money grew by 39.40% compared to last year. The total amount is over Tk4 lakh crore.
This means banks have plenty of cash to lend. But many people are not taking loans. So the money just sits there.
For small online shops, this could be good news. If you need a loan to grow your business, banks may be more willing to talk. But you still have to ask.
The story does not say why people are not borrowing. It also does not say if loan rules have changed. So we only know what the numbers show.
Who this affects
- Online shop owners who want to borrow money to buy more stock.
- Shop owners who already have a loan and worry about paying it back.
- Anyone thinking of starting a small online business this year.
What to do about it
- Visit your bank this week and ask about small business loans.
- Bring your shop's sales records and any papers that show your income.
- Compare loan offers from two or three banks before you pick one.
- Ask clearly about the interest rate and any hidden fees.
- Only borrow what you can repay from your shop's monthly profit.
