More women work in banks, few lead

12 Sept 2026

A new report looks at women working in banks in Bangladesh. It says more women are getting jobs at different levels. But few women reach the top jobs.

The report covers 61 scheduled banks. These banks had 2,17,818 workers in total. That count was at the end of January to June 2026.

The report does not give the share of women. It only says their numbers are rising. It also says their numbers stay low at senior levels.

This matters to small online shops. Many shop owners use bank accounts and loans. Banks with women in senior roles may serve women customers better.

Who this affects

  • Online shop owners who use bank accounts for daily sales.
  • Women who run small online shops and want fair bank service.
  • Shop owners who plan to hire women staff in the future.

What to do about it

  • Check your bank's website this week. See if they talk about women in leadership.
  • Ask your bank branch about loan plans for women shop owners.
  • If you hire staff, think about training women for bigger roles.
  • Talk to other women shop owners. Share which banks treat them well.
